  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Igarapé Carnot Pequeno," as all references point the location of this stream to be the along Rio Calçoene, which is not located east of Calçoene-Oiapoque road, BR-156. Noticed that Igarapé Carnot is mostly located east of BR-156 and may have been what the collector was actually referring to in the locality description; georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Igarapé Carnot in Mun. Calçoene, Amapá. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Igarapé Carnot, a tributary of Rio Calçoene. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the mouth (confluence of Igarapé Carnot and Rio Calçoene) and the headwaters (approximated through the dense forest cover) of Igarapé Carnot, then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of the stream. Measured to approximately this halved distance from the mouth of Igarapé Carnot toward the center; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Igarapé Carnot, 24696.8 m), and measurement error (.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
