Chapeu on the BA052 road to Mundo Novo,
by the Rio Ferro Dpido, with water worn
horizontally-bedded sandstone at soil
surface, with damp sand, sedge marsh,
exposed rock & waterfall. Vegetation:
open scrub to closed low woodland in the
drier areas.

This plant growing between rocks.
Stem short, producing thick, whitish
velameniferous roots to 8mra thick.
Petiole 8cm long, 1.2cm deep,
x-sections:
Lamina 56cm lor^g, 19cm broad, margins
very strongly undulate, shiny dark
green above, paler and less shiny, below.
Costa,
x-secticn:
Primary lateral nerves somewhat yellowish-
green above, more yellow-green below,
though some spms only green, strongly
prominent above and below. Secondary venation
not prominent. Peduncle green, terete,
to 4-8 cm long, 9mm thick. Spa the green
with purplish margins, 7cm long 4cm broad,'
broadly clasping stipe at base. Stipe
green, 1.5cm long, 1 cm thick, thickening
towards apex. Spadix 9.5cm long, 1.5cm
thick, usually cylindrical to slightly
tapering apically though one spm with clavate
spadix and longer stipe with spathe sharply
reflexed and rolled back apically. Spadix
yellow at anthesis, becoming green, then
grey at fruiting stage. Sterile fruit 13mm
lon£., 6mm broad, obovate, dark purple-maroon,
paler in lower part. Fertile fruit fatly
obovate dark purple-maroon at tip, scarlet
below. Seeds elliptical, buff, 8mm long,
3mm broad, flattened.
