Habitat
In moist forested soil of a steep incline.

Description
Slender tree; sten 15 feet high, 3 inches thick; bark yellowish, with brown lenticels; wood softish, whitish, without odor or taste; branches scttered above the middle, rather few and laxly rebranched; twigs suberect; yellowish briwn pubescent; inflorescence suberect, all the stalks green; buds fusiform, horizontal, or nearly so arranged; calyx green at the base, then somewhat yellowish, white and tips ultimately purplish in flower, in the fruiting stage dark purple; corolla, stamens ans pistil white; flower odorless; fruit purplish blue, globosely flattened, at least 1/3 inch thick; calyx persistent, turning suberect, thick leathery and dark purple while the fruit ripens, the 3 segments rotately and twistingly spreading when the fruit is ripe.
