    Mexico. Oaxaca. Highway 190, 2 km E of junction of Highway 185 and 190, 17 km ENE of Juchitán.

  • Habitat

    On hillside 30-40 m above the level of the plain, in rocky soil. Vegetation relatively undisturbed.

  • Description

    Large population of self-seeding plants, the tallest about 3-4 m; trunk 10 cm diam.; plants begin to flower when about 1 m tall; all parts with strong odor of HCN; stems with cream-colored latex; young stems strong brown, 5 YR 4/5 *, internally light yellow-green, 7.5 GY 9/4*; branching begins above the middle, di- and trichtomous above; ypung foliage at apex strong yellow-green, 7.5 GY 6/8*; mature petioles dull red-green, with some olive shading; roots with roughened epidermis, strong brown, 5 YR 4/5 *; white internally; tepals of male and female flowers externally brilliant yellow-green, 2.5 GY 9/8 *; disc same as tepal; stamens white.
