Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the city of Cuiabá in Mato Grosso, Brazil, taking into account the added uncertainty from the word "pr." or prope" (near) in the locality description. Used Google Maps - Earth View to locate the city of Cuiabá. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the city. Because the center of the nearest named place of similar size, the city of Várzea Grande, is closer to the center of Cuiabá than the linear extent of Cuiabá itself, followed the methodology of Case B of "Near a Named Place" of the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the city of Cuiabá (spatial extent provided by Google Maps). Input coordinates, linear extent (13680.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place).
