  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to "Fôlha Parima NA-20" [map] for location information for Tucano (in this case assumed it to be Rio Tucano because no village of Tucano found) (Carta do Brasil ao Milionésimo, Fôlha Parima NA-20 [map]. 1:1,000,000. In: Faissol, Speridião et. al. Carta Internacional do Mundo ao Milionésimo. 2nd edition. Rio de Janeiro: Instituto brasileiro de geografia e estatistica, 1972. p. 3.). Georeferenced to the midpoint of Rio Cauaburi between the mouth of Rio Maturacá and the mouth of Rio Tucano. Used the Google Maps - Earth View to find Rio Maturacá, a tributary of Rio Negro, in Mun. Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, Amazonas. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Rio Maturacá (confluence of Rio Maturacá and Rio Cauaburi) and the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Rio Tucano (confluence of Rio Tucano and Rio Cauaburi), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along Rio Cauaburi nearest to the midpoint of the line; used Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic midpoint of Rio Cauaburi between the two rivers. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of this segment of river. Input coordinates, linear extent (10790.0 m), and measurement error (50 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
