    Perennial, forming a low depressed cespitose mat; leaves glandular under the tomentose; scapes erect, glandular or glabrous; involucre membraneous, glandular, and tomentum 5-6 lobed, capitate; perianth glabrous or glandular, white with a red midrib varying through pink to red to a deep red; calyx segments unequal, the innermost series narrower than the outer. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
