United States of America. North Carolina. Watauga Co. ‘Hillstead Hollow Estate’, Zionville. Broad valley backing to a ridge.

Habitat
Common in the immediate area. Rich forest; canopy of Acer saccharum, Aesculus flava, Carya spp., Liriodendron tulipifera, Magnolia acuminata, Quercus alba, Quercus rubra, Quercus velutina, understory mostly of Carpinus caroliniana. Herbaceous cover includes: Aralia nudicaulis, Carex albursina, Carex spp., Delphinium tricorne, Lilium (flowers eaten by deer), Luzula acuminata, Osmorhiza longistylis, Sedum ternatum, Tiarella cordifolia, & Viola striata. Formerly grazed by cattle for a decade (+).
