PI. 434. 1891.] Conanthus sandwicensis (A. Gray) y~ ' i . Nama sandwicensis A. GRAY,'Proc. Am. Acad! 5:338. 1862. *' . A few, plants were collected at, Waikiki, Oahu, and later sev- eral more at Mana, Kauai, in low ground near the sea. A small plant, in appearance much like the various species which have until recehtly. been called Nama, and which are found in the southwestern part of'the United States. According to Mrs ' Coville, Cont^U. S. Nat. Herb. 4:161, Conanthus aretioides can not be separated generically from the» plants which we have wrongly been -calling Nama, and therefore Conanthus is the ne^t available name, a 'fact which- Kuntze was not aware of when he proi^osed Mavilaunidium.
