LUMNITZERA Willdenow Petaloma coccinea Blanco Fl. Filip. (1837) 345 (sp. nov.); ed. 2 (1845) 240; ed. 3, 2 (1878) 83=LUMNITZERA LITTOREA (Jack) Voigt (L. coccinea W. & A., L. purpurea Presl). This characteristic species is found throughout the Philippines along the seashore. Illustrative specimen from Tayabas Province, Luzon, April, 1913 (Merrill: Species Blancoanae No. 521). Petaloma alba Blanco Fl. Filip. (1837) 344 (sp. nov.); ed. 2 (1845) 240; ed. 3, 2 (1878) 82, t. 126=LUMNITZERA RACEMOSA Willd. The species as it occurs about Manila Bay is a small shrub rarely over 3 meters high, frequently less than 1 meter high. It is known to the Tagalogs as culasi.
