deeply shaded streamlets at T50 feet altitude; stem solitary
or usually few olustered, araot or auberect from the reclining
basal portion of the 1 inoh thick terete and reddish colored
portion; only sparingly branched toward the top, 1 yard high
or less; leaves ascending, the blades horiaontally spreading,
velvety deep green above, red beneath especially tha nervea;
flower cluster from the terminal leaf axils, subtended by
green or pink bracts, pedicels pink and widely spreading,
perianth white and pink, stamens bright yellow, pistils
greenish; fruits pendant, green but turning red with age;
