Description
Planted and grown as part of the NYBG African American Garden: The Caribbean Experience at the Edible Academy. This garden was created to provide a brief look at the history of the African American and African Diaspora experience in the Caribbean through the lens of plants, consisting of eight sections and beds: Cane, Roots, Stewpot, Flavor, Creativity, Abundance, Remedies, Transformation. In these eight beds, you will find stories of resilience and resistance, modification and migration, remembrance, reverence, and more told through the plants of our world. Curated by Jessica B. Harris, implemented and cared for by James Boyer, Brooke Gibbard, Toby Adams, NYBG Horticulture staff, and Mellon Foundation Foodways interns Angel Tobar, Jason Lopez, Layla Gee, Allisson Garcia, Danielle Cruz, Armando Guzman, Nicole Rosas, and Michael Noi. The African American Garden is made possible with support from the Mellon Foundation and The Charles E. Culpeper Arts & Culture Program of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
