RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN Plants of Orange County, California, USA FABACEAE Spartium junceum L. Southern Santa Ana Mountains, San Mateo Canyon Wilderness Area. Western edge of the wilderness in Lucas Canyon along canyon floor from crossing of Lucas Canyon Trail, upstream 1/4 mile to spur trail leading to old mining habitations in side canvon T7S R6W Nl/2 SW1/4 sec. 10. Elev. 1000' - 1350'. Slopes with mixed chaparral of Adenostoma fasciculatum, Ceanothus crassifolius, C. spinosus, Malosma laurina, Quercus dumosa and Heteromeles arbutifolia, with scattered patches of coastal sage scrub of Artemisia californica, Eriogonum fasciculatum, and Salvia mellifera. Canyon bottoms with riparian vegetation of Platanus racemosa, Quercus agrifolia, and Baccharis salicifolia. Shrub, flowers yellow. Locally common at site of old homestead.
