Dear Red:
In my monograph of the North American Ranunculi, which mi
appeared as an article entitled NA Treatise on the North American'/^
Ranunculi," forming the July issue of the American Midland / •
Naturalist but actually Issued lcefce in- Novembe^f,*"there appears on
pages 43 and 250 the description of a very peculiar Ranunculus fro
southern Utah. Until August 29th of this year the plant was known
from only one collection by Marcus S«, Jones in 1894* On August 29th
I located the plant in probablyTrtfiTonly^ location—about a spring £
along the main fault in the Sevier River.Jgallgy in the midst of the x
sagebrush desert* I had expected touse Jones* specimen, which was
collected in fruit for the most part, as the type collection*
However, since my own collection Includes more individual sheets as
well as good flowering and fruiting material, I changed the status
of Jones* collection while the article was still in proof, making
my own collection the type. Qiie of the sheets of Jones* collection
is located in your herbarium, and I am sending an identification
label for it* If I have labeled your sheets otherwise, I should ap-
preciate it if you would substitute this label. In the addenda on
page 250 of the article I have indicated your institution as one
of those which will receive an isotype of this new entity, this
being my own number 13420. I am sending, also, a copy of the mono-
graph, but I am waiting until after Christmas for distributing these
in order to avoid the rush in the mail.
