Gloucester Patrol Post, Talasea, New Brit.

Habitat: Secondary forest on steep slope;
altitude 300 feet.
Annot. Tree; bole crooked; branches of
crown _+ horizontal* Height _45 feet, bole
20 feet, d.b.h. 8 inches. Bark grey-brown*
slightly fissured, the cracks wide. Inner
bark red. Blaze light red. Wood straw.
Odour same as root beer (Sarsaparilla).
Leaves dark green above; pubescence rusty-
coloured. Leaves white below* Flowers
cream.
