River bank, full sun, permanently waterlogged, in sandy to clayey soil. Native
and occasional. Mopane savanna with Xanthium strumarium, Sporobolus
pyramidal is and Cynodon dactylon.
Perennial hydrophyte with prostrate stems up to 3 m long. White, spongy
adventitious roots, 60-80 mm thick, occur at nodes. Leaves simple, alternate,
dark green and glabrous, lanceolate, 50 x 10-15 mm, leaf margins entire.
Solitary flowers occur in leaf axils, petals free, yellow, 10 mm in diameter,
ovary inferior. Capsules 30 mm long.
