[The protologue says "Type from Buchanan, Va., collected by Hon. Addison Brown, May 19, 1892; collected also by Dr. John K. Small, on Kate's Mountain, near White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., May 16, 1892. Both specimens in the herbarium of Columbia University." I interpret this to mean only the Brown specimen is the type and the other is a paratype; which is supported by the fact that only NY 03228814 has the word 'type' written by Britton, while NY 03228815 does not have this designation.]
