Flowers white, regular; ovary superior, 2-divided; bifid style protrudes just slightly behond floral tube; petals 5 (one case of 6 petals); sepas 5, wonosepalous calyx which persists and grows after flowering to hold small seeds; sta«ens 5, inserted just below neck of corolla and then joined into a tube surrounding style; leaves lettuce- like in texture.
