feet high In light woods bordering meadows at 250 feet; stem
branched from below the middle« 6 inches thick, the ultimate
branches subereeti wood light« soft, white throughout,
tasteless, slightly odorous; bark yellowish gray or brown
OH the branches; leaves ascending; the blades desoending«
submembranous, a trifle deeper green on the upper side, the
main veins beneath yellowish green; flowers odorless« soft,
green, except the whitish filaments and style, the former
bearing brown anthers, the latter ¿not pallid stigmas; fruits
flattened, less than l/Z inch across, green, 4-lobed and
