Phytogeogr. value i A plant of connection of the
Mediterranean-Irano-Turanian regions* penetrating into the Sudano-
Deccanian region and some other tropical countries.
L. strictum var. spicatum is a common therophyte in the
Batha association!* principally in the Poterietum spinosi. A sociable
plant forming patches of nearly pure stands in the mountain and
hill districts of Palestine. Its penetration into the Sud.-Dec.
region and other tropical countries is apparently confined to
high mountains.
Owing to lack of sufficient data we cannot state the phy-
togeogr. value of this variety.
