Humus of topsoil up to 20cm deep. Avg.of 1500mm/y rain. Small tree, whorled branches; large, clustered leaves; 25m tall. Bole crooked, round. Small buttresses. Soft wood. Bark fibrous, thick, gray or brown. Slash reddish-purple or brownish-pink, turns brown. Leaves simple, elliptic, apex acuminate; erect hairs, some in domatia. S.
