Funded by the Rockefeller Foundation THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN Plants of Ghana No. 28 STERCULIACEAE Sterculia rhinopetala GHANA. Ashanti: Sekyere. Bobiri Forest Reserve. 6°38’N, 1°17’W. Moist semi-deciduous forest with many lianas. Humus of topsoil up to 20cm deep. Avg.of 1500mm/y rain. Tree 37m tall. Straight, round bole and narrow buttresses. Bark fibrous, smooth, with rough spots from flaking when old, and eyemarks. Slash brownish-purple, orange, reddish-purple, or cream-colored. Copious, white exudate. Leaves simple, with simple hairs.
