THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN Plants of Ghana No. 88 STERCULIACEAE Cola nitida GHANA. Ashanti: Sekyere. Bobiri Forest Reserve. 6°38’N, 1°17 * W. Moist semi-deciduous forest with many lianas. Humus of topsoil up to 20cm deep. Avg.of 1500mm/y rain. Tree often cultivated (edible cola), 25m tall. Round, crooked bole. Bark spongy, smooth, gray. Slash purplish-cream or pink; turns brown. Leaves simple, narrowly elliptic, apex acuminate, base cuneate, margin entire. Few, tiny, simple hairs mixed with stellate hairs on leaf. S.
