Moist semi-deciduous forest with many lianas. Humus of topsoil up to 20cm deep. Avg.of 1500mm/y rain. Emergent tree, 61m tall. Tall buttresses. Straight, cylindrical bole. Very fibrous, gray, hard bark with sharp spines. Slash cream-colored, turning brown. Palmate leaves; 5-14 narrowly elliptic leaflets with glands on blade; margin entire; glabrous. S.
