THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN Plants of Ghana No. 22 MELIACEAE Guarea cedrata GHANA. Ashanti: Sekyere. Bobiri Forest Reserve. 6°38’N, 1°17’W. Moist semi-deciduous forest with many lianas. Humus of topsoil up to 20cm deep. Avg.of 1500mm/y rain. Large tree with dense crown, 50m tall. Long, straight, round bole. Thick buttresses. Fibrous, smooth bark. Prominent wide eyemarks. Slash pink, brown to reddish, or cream-colored, with strong sweet smell, turning brown after 3 mins. Pinnately compound leaves with simple, short hairs. S.
