THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN Plants of Ghana No. 83 MELIACEAE Entandrophragma angolense GHANA. Ashanti: Sekyere. Bobiri Forest Reserve. 6°38’N, l017’W. Moist semi-deciduous forest with many lianas. Humus of topsoil up to 20cm deep. Avg.of 1500mm/y rain. Large tree, open crown, leaves clustered at end of branches, 50m tall. Round, straight bole. Bark brittle, thick, brown, smooth. Slash red, turns purple. Pinnate leaves. Leaflets 7-10 opposite or subopposite pairs, obovate or oblong; rachis 24-45cm long; simple, whitish hairs. S.
