Dense forest on steep slopes, shallow soils, many superficial
roots, canopy discontinuous, emergents to 35 m.
Seedlings on forested hillside, most within 20 m of adults
(Daly et al. 12982). Germination phanerocotylar, epigeal,
cotyledons trinerved, maple-leaf-like (shallowly 3-lobed),
first eophylls alternate and unifoliolate or trifoliolate,
subsequent eophylls trifoliolate, after 2-3 of these the first
metaphylls imparipinnate and 2-jugate.
