The New York Botanical Garden Burseraceae Canarium Madagascar. Tamatave. Commune Ambodirina, Réserve Intégrale Naturelle Betampona. 400-600 m. Primary moist forest on sharply undulating terrain. Discontinuous canopy ca. 20 m tall, high density of lianas, low epiphyte load, herb layer of variable density. Sandy clay soil. 20.69cm diam x 9m tall. Relative tree height: Understory tree. Trail in reserve: PB. Gradient of slope, degrees: 21. Direction of crest, degrees: 110. Use: Resin used for caulking pirogues (canoes) and for illumination, also burned in tromba ceremony. N.V.
