Shennongjia Forest District (lfffi30'N; 110°30'E):
4 km W of the Xingshan Xian (Hsien) line,
vicinity of Sanduihe, side canyon on the
5 side pff the Dangyang River. Elevation
ca. 750 m. Open thicket along stream.
Staminate and pistillate plants growing
together. Small tree to ca. 6 m tall,*
2-branched from base, each ca. 10-13 cm
d.b.h; original trunk ca. 30-35 cm d.b.h.
Fruits dark, dull purple; juicy and
sweet with bitter aftertaste.
