E Madagascar, Toamasina (Tamatave) Province, Bay of Antongil, Maroansetra, near the bridge over the river. Map Ref.: 15°26'S 49°45’E Tracksides, amongst weedy vegetationn, on sand. Alt. c. 3 m Herb to c. 1 m tall. Stems green tinged purple, with dark brown hairs. Leaves mostly 7-foliolate, with small stipels, and red-tinged rachis; leaflets mid- green, paler beneath, softly pubescent; stipules c. 10 mm long, very slender, green. Inflorescences long, suberect, axillary, with numerous flowers. Flowers c. 7 mm tall, the keel and wings springing down to release the staminal bundle; calyx green with 5 long, slender, dark-hairy teeth; standard coral pink with a small white basal spot, obovate and notched at the apex; wings spreading laterally from the keel to form a platform, coral pink; keel pink above, white beneath (wings and keel c. 5 mm long). Infructescences long, with numerous densely spaced pods swept to one side; pods becoming dark brown, dehiscent, compartmented between the seeds; seeds dark brown. 04809150 D.J. & B.P.
