Medium to large, thickly branched, round-topped tree. Leaves alternate, even-pinnate
leaflets up to 36 or more, oblong, about 2 cm. long, obtuse or slightly emarginate, sessile’
light green, base obliquely inequilateral. Flowers yellow with red veins, in axillary, race-
mose clusters. Pods linear, curved, up to 12 or more cm. long, seeds several, enclosed in
an edible pulp.
Introduced (9852). English name, tamarind; native names, fitihetau,
tamaleni.
