S Madagascar, Province of Toliara (Tulear), 30 km
east of Amboasary, 40 km west of Fort Dauphin
(Taolanaro), near Res. Nat. Andohahela, Parcelle 3.

Spiny transition scrubland with Mimosa delicatula
and Neodypsis decaryi, on quartzy lateritic soil.
Small climbing herb to c. 1 m tall with very slender,
twining, purplish green stems. Leaves
imparipinnate, with 5-9 leaflets; leaflets very
variable in shape, from short and elliptical, to long
and linear, deep bluish green above, greyish
beneath, with a purplish margin. Flowers solitary in
the leaf axils, c. 3.5-3.9 cm long, sky blue, not
scented; calyx 5-toothed, the longest uppermost,
slightly inflated at the base, green tinged and veined
purple, subtended by 2 small purplish bracts;
standard c. 3.5 cm long, with a short claw, mostly
sky blue, with a white central splash becoming
greenish at the base; wings long-clawed, c. 2.2 cm
long, the limb c. 9 mm long, sky blue, nestling
against the base of the standard and enclosing the
keel; keel cream and pale blue, with 2 lateral
pockets adhering to the wings; filament tube and
style pale green, the style bearded inside.
