Open shrubby woodland and scrubland
grazed by cattle. Several shrubs spaced in
small area. On sandy red laterite.
Alt. 275 m
Shrub to c. 1 m tall. Bark corky at the plant
base and peeling/winged. Leaves pinnately
3-5-foliolate, white-hairy beneath. Pedicels
c. 2 cm long. Flowers 1-4 from nodes on the
branches, c. 4 cm long; standard 3 cm long,
1.7 cm broad, reflexed, elliptic, acute, vivid
orange; wings 3 cm long, appressed to the
keel, finely tapering at the apex; keel 3.5 cm
long, inflexed; style green. Calyx green.
Pods c. 10 cm long, white-hairy, explosively
dehiscent. No root nodules.
NOTE: Pollinated by the "Soimanga"
sunbird - a dark bird with blue metallic wing
flashes.
