THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN Plants of Ghana No. 1 FABACEAE Baphia pubescens GHANA. Ashanti: Sekyere. Bobiri Forest Reserve. 6°38’N, 1°17’W. Moist semi-deciduous forest with many lianas. Humus of topsoil up to 20cm deep. Avg.of 1500mm/y rain. Small tree or shrub, 7m in height. Crooked, cylindrical bole. Fluted at base. Brown-tomentose twigs. Stipular bracts 3-5mm long, early caducuous. Slash cream-colored to light yellow, pale brown, or orange-red. Leaves simple, elliptic, acuminate. Brown hairs. S.
