THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN Plants of Ghana No. 81 FABACEAE Baphia nitida GHANA. Ashanti: Sekyere. Bobiri Forest Reserve. 6°38’N, 1°17’W. Moist semi-deciduous forest with many lianas. Humus of topsoil up to 20cm deep. Avg.of 1500mm/y rain. Small tree or shrub, 10m tall. Round, crooked bole; hard wood. Bark fibrous, smooth, gray-brown. Slash orange; strong, pleasant odor. Leaves simple, elliptic, apex acuminate, base obtuse, margin entire; few brown hairs on blade and young twigs. Planted as dye-wood ("camwood"). S.
