a) Sunny, arid, SE-facing steep slope of
bare windblown dune sands, gravel, scree
fields, and rock outcrops of decomposing
"granite'/ with bare soil steppe and "desert"
vegetation of Oxytropis (coeruleus?),
Festuca, Carex raonosperma, Phloj odicarpus
popovii, Alyssum obovatum, Chamaerhodos
grandiflora, Ephedra, Scrophulatia ineisa,
Thymus serpyllum, Qrostachys spinosa,
Folygonatum officinale, Rhaponticum uniflorum.
Open, sandy Pinus sylvestris forest on
top of dune and scree slopes, with dense
Rhododendron dahuricum, Alnus fruticosa,
Lilium martagon, Cotoneaster lucidus,
Lmnaea borealis, Sorbus sibiricus under-
story, 10-15 m above Lake Baikal at
"Academic Bay."
c) Inner beaches and sandy bank of "Bukhta
Babushka" ("Grandmother's Bay"), 0-1 m
above lake level, just NE of "Academic
Bay," with Isatis oblongata, Festuca
rubra, Stellaria dichotoma, Agropyron,
Carex kirilovii, Papaver nudicaule.
BUKHTA PESCHANAYA ("Sandy Bay")—a vacation
Settlement—on LAKE BAIKAL, at the base of
the Primorskii Range, ca. 90 km NE of mouth
of Angara River.
