Phytogeogr. value: A species of the East-Mediter-
ranean element. Perhaps the most characteristic and also one of
the commonest Palestine plants.
ft Is the leading species of the Poterietum spinosi, the
most important association of Mediter. Batha. Intensely exploited
by Arabs tor fuel and for the lime industry. Undoubtedly
Poterium spinosum now occupies vast areas formerly covered
by Maqui and forest. In the Irano-Turanian territories of Palestine
it is met with here and there in the less steppe parts; in the
Saharo-Sindian territories it is met with along wadies, whepe^it
is brought down from Mediter. localities of a higher elevation.
