E Madagascar, Toamasina (Tamatave) Province, NE
of Maroansetra, in flat region c. 2 km East of
Sahavary river valley, c. 7 km east of Sahavary.

Very damp, flat area of forest c. 20-25 tall, with
numerous slender trees, Pandanus and Vonitra
palms, on very peaty covered soil, on white sand.
Alt. c. 380 m
Tree to c. 20 m tall, with unbranched trunk to c. 10
m; DBH c. 20-25 cm; bark pale, greyish, with fawn
lenticels and short, narrow, shallow vertical fissures,
but otherwise smooth; slash cream, bark thin.
Leaves tending to cluster at the branchlet tips, with
(5)9-12 pairs of pinnae; rhachis grooved above,
without glands; leaflets small, mid to deep green
above, glossy, slightly paler beneath, coriaceous.
Large, flat, red-stained pods held in large terminal
branched infructescences, originally erect but pulled
down by the pendulous clusters of pods. (Pods in
full light bright red).
