Margins of small Morse Clay prairie opening on slope between pine flatwoods (to the N) and river terrace (to the S). Growing with Crataegus marshallii, C. crus-galli, C. spathulata, Schizachyrium scoparium, Sorghastrum nutans, Asclepias viridiflora, Silphium laciniatum, etc.

Locally common around margins of small prairie remnant. Shrub to 8 feet tall.
