a) Desert steppe with loose coarse sandy to
gravelly bare "soil,” rarely with open grass
cover (Stipa orientalis, Agropyron cristatum,
A. sp*, Poa dahurica, Carex spp., Festuca,
Iris spp., Cymbaria dahurica, and many
Astragalus spp. and Oxytropis spp.).
Cliffs and outcrops of decomposing
granite, quartzite, or green feldspar, etc*
in steppe on slopes and bluffs NE of Aya
Bay, with Caragana pygmaea, Orostachys
spinosa, Arenaria meyeri, Selaginella spp.,
and many crustose lichens.
Tfeclss.5, heavily-grazed, coastal hills
and bluffs of the "Tazheranskaya Steppe,"
an arid zone along LAKE BAIKAL at Bukhta
Aya; (AYA BAY), 158 km NE of mouth of Angara
River.
