Achyraníhes aspera L.
ARUSHA. Ngorongoro Conservation Area, 15 km Northwest of Endulen village
in savanna grassland along dry riverine dominated by Acacis tortilis, classified as
lowland "olpurkel" by the Maasai. Information given by Lepilal Ole Nakuroi and
Peter Metele, warriors ca.
(35° 12' E 3P T S). Alt. 1700 m.	Apr	27,	1993
Herb, flowers bright purple. Maasai name: enekidong'o (ilkidong'o ~ tails). Used
to "tie" the cattle, when they are moved from the lowland "orpurkel" to the
highland "osupuko", so they won't die, when they eat "enekidong'o osupuko".
Mud close to a flowing river is mixed with honey and a crushed leave of
"enekidong'o". One from "lukumai" klan or a "oloiboni" who know how to "tie"
smear it on the tail of some of the cows.
