324. Mathiola aspera Boiss,
Diagn. PI. Or. Ser. I, 7:16 (1849).
Phy togeogr. value : A species of the Middle-Saharo-
Sindian element.
An endemic species of the Saharo-Sindian territories of
Palestine, principally of the Judean Desert and Lower Jordan
Valley. Met with chiefly in the associations of the Chenoleion
arabicae and in the Suaedetum asphalticae. Boissier in his Flora
Orientalis, has placed this species between M. oxyceras and M.
bicornis. This is incorrect, as both of the last-mentioned species are
but forms of one species (M. bicornis), whereas M. aspera is
clearly distinguished systematically from both of them. A fragrant
plant.
Saharo-Sindian part of the Judean Desert, E. of Han-
Hatrur, abundant, 28. II. 1935.
