ut Flora of Papua New Guinea Lae National Herbarium Morobe province; Atzera Range, lowland forest near the 9 mile settlement, elev. 200-400 m. with Melodinus 9297; scandent, woody and inermous; twigs terete, dark brown, covered with a mealy pubescence, the hairs often stellate, bearing numerous axillary buds rufous tomentulose; leaves alternate, distichous, divaricate, exstipulate, stellate pubescent on both surfaces, coriaceous, adaxially medium green, weakly shining sometimes sub-bullate x abaxially dull yellow-green; lamina elliptic-oblong or elliptic-lanceolate, typical blade 19 x 8.25 cm, apex acuminate, margin entire, base rounded to truncate; petiole 1 cm, slightly flattened above, orange-brown pubescent; venation unicostate, pinnatinerved, laterals c. 12 pairs, straight oblique or spreading arcuate, always curving at the margins, closing or not, reticulated, plexus irregular; fruits not seen; inflorescence extra-axillary, from the nodes or internodes, 1 to several together, the axial length <3 cm, shortly pedunculate, all axes orange-brown tomentose, bracteate; bracts small, usually acute, with investiture as the axes; flowers actinomorphic, rather showy, dia.=4 cm when petals deployed; sepals 3, valvate, concave, broadly ovate, cleft nearly to the base, dull yellow to brownish-yellow, pubescent; corolla choripetalous, 3+3, conform, the petals oblong- orbicular, pubescent on both sides, dull red, patent at anthesis then recurved; torus raised; androecium of numerous stamens, anthercells marginal, concealed by the flattened but highly oblique connective; carpels indeterminate; stigmas convolute, flowers bottled at A. coll.
