Gulf Province; Lakekamu, alluvial forest near streambed of the Eloa
River, upstream of the expedition base camp; elev. 350/E altimeter
(105 m); colls, centered on coordinates 7D 44/E lat. x 146D 29.5/E
long.
collection sequence 11528-11545; subcanopy tree on riverbank;
outer bark smooth, obscured by lichens, perfumy with fragrance of
c. sarsaparilla; slash pinkish and mucilaginous, sapwood pale
yellow-brown; twigs terete, sometimes fistulose and inhabited by
black ants; leaves distichous, flaccid, ^duplicate* Dpapery, adaxial
surface dark dull green, abaxially slightly lighter green;
inflorescence paniculate, axillary, all axes green or brownish-green;
tepals 6 in 2 whorls of 3 (3 + 3), cream to pale yellow; stamens 9 (6
+ 3), outer whorl introrse and opposite the tepals, inner whorl
extrorse, anthers operculate by 2 valves; yellow glands present at
base of stamens.
