Gulf Province; Lakekamu, east branch of the Avi Avi
River; ridgeline past the proposed research station, at
junction of foot-track with second ridge; natural-growth
foothill forest, altimeter elev. 575’ (175 m); colls. Centered
on coordinates 7° 44’ lat. x 146° 30’ long.
collection sequence 11491 - 11498; subcanopy treelet,
unbuttressed; outer bark fissured, flaking in blocks, lichen-
covered; slash orange-brown with darker streaks;
sapwood orange-brown; twigs terete; leaves spiral,
herbaceous, adaxial surface dark dull green, abaxially
yellow-green, blade margins undulate; inflorescence
axillary or infrafoliar, all axes pale green; calyx dentate,
light green; corolla choripetalous, 5, segments spreading,
very pale green; staminal column cream or light yellow;
stamens 10, approximated at the throat of the column;
stigma capitate, whitish.
