River, trail past the research house; elev. 450’ aneroid
(137 m) in natural-growth foothill forest; colls, centered on
coordinates 7° 44’ lat. x 146° 30’ long.
collection sequence 11468 - 11484; canopy tree; 20 - 30
m height, unbuttressed; outer bark longitudinally cracked,
slash pinkish-brown and with strong onion odor, sapwood
pale straw; twigs orange-brown, terete; leaves crowded
near apex of branchlets, spirally arranged, blades fleshy,
adaxial surface dark glossy green, abaxially yellow-green;
foliage also smelling of onions; panicles with axes green;
flowers entirely white, tepals 4, tightly recurved; staminal
column white.
