  • Description

    Spreading shrub, 4 m. high...; wood sappy white except the brown inner portion, rather closely grained; bark yellowish gray, longitudinally checked in long plates, the inner portion brown; branches crookedly spreading; the twigs green, flattened, its edges winged; leaves heavy, coriaceous, nearly flat and horizontally spreading, dark green above, much lighter beneath; erect panicle 1 foot long, nearly as broad across the base; bright red throughout except the light pink calyx and corolla; stamens and anthers yellow, the slender tips bluish to purple; style pink; "Palpalan".
