KAURI: Hanalei District, Liiahuli Valley, upper preserve.
Riparian vegetation along Litahuli Streai. Most of Canopy
destroyed by Hurricane Iniki (92) and understory heavily
invaded by Clidetia hirta. Native taxa include Boehaeria,
Pipturus, Hedyotis, Bidens, and Thelypteris. Introduced taxa
include Stachytarpheta, Blechnui, and fldiantus. Elev. ca
1700 ft.
Shrub of up to B ft.; leaves rugose, dark glossy green above
dull grey-green below with whitish-green veins, young leaves
and stet with reddish-pink hairsj recepticle pale green turn-
ing reddish; fruit glossy, blue-purple with numerous seed.
