Perennial graminoid; 55 cm tall; bases red; rhizomes red & twiggy;
achene 1 mm long, metallic golden yellow, reticulate, 3 angled;
scales anthocyanic, 1.75 mm long, ends scarious and ragged; culms
<.5 mm wide, ~4-6 deep grooves/wings: growing with Thelypteris
palustris, Ilex verticillata, Clethra alnifolia, Rhododendron
viscosum, Vaccinium corymbosum, Osmunda cinnamomea and
Iris versicolor.
