NE of entrance into first Andean foothills, 17°39'S, 63°43'W alt. 400 m. Primary tropical evergreen forest on slopes along small stream. Poulsenia armata, Iriartea deltoidea, Jessenia bataua. Small shrub 2 m. tall; cut stems turning red on exposure. Inflorescence hanging, yellow- green, apparently odorless, the immature catkin-like inflorescences are red; seems to be the same species as a large shrul? here without flowers or fruits. Coll, M.
